Johnny P. Johnson
has ventured off on his first solo project after two previous CDs.

'Prairie Roots Grow Deep' had been in the making for over two years, but really started fourteen years ago after Johnny moved to the West Kootenay region of British Columbia.

Originally from a farming background in Saskatchewan, Johnny also lived in the prairie provinces of Alberta and Manitoba. His music is hard to categorize, but could be called roots-folks-country with a Canadiana feel.

Johnny started singing gospel music at an early age and later moved to song writing and performing with Kootenay bands 'the nerV' and more recently the Midnight Harvesters.

He first came into the music scene in the early 90's as part of the band 'the nerV', whose debut album 'Anyone in General' received rave reviews and had much success. They played many festivals including the Merritt Mountain Music Festival and the Hootenanny in the Hills.

Prairie Roots Grow Deep
Several songs from the album received considerable air play from commercial radio and the CBC, Canada's national radio & tv network.
Quite an accomplishment for a fledgling band.

In the latter part of the nineties Johnny was part of the band 'The Midnight Harvesters'.The band's album 'State of Mind' captured a nomination for Independent Album of the Year from the BC Country Music Association. The Harvesters played at the awards show for two consecutive years.

Johnny's new album, 'Prairie Roots Grow Deep' has been well received by the media, and was nominated for 2005 Album of the Year by the BC Country Music Association.

Whether performing at Merrit Mountain Music Festival, Hootenany in the Hills, writing the theme song for the B.C. Summer Games, receiving an invitation on Morningside Radio, CBC, or singing at folk clubs and peace rallies, Johnny seems to have a connection to the spirit of music.
